Battered like the rest of the east coast by record breaking snow falls and storms this February, you might not realize that people living on Durham NC real estate enjoy paradise for many months of the year. The weather is great, we live right by the Atlantic Ocean, and bolstered by institutions such as Duke University the economy of the city is still strong even when that of the nation is tumultuous. Durham's still a place where you can find work in any number of occupations, from manure handling to research in a biotech firm.

The innate appeal of Durham's many qualities have helped make it a tourist destination over the years. The main visitors are from the Carolina's and neighboring states, but there are also people who come here from points further abroad. You may run into a lawyer in Hamilton while on business, and come across the same lawyer enjoying a round of gold on one of Durham's many fine courses. It's a great place for a trip, made better by the fact that it is relatively off the radar of the masses.

But what is there to do once you get here? Well, we already mentioned golf. There are over a dozen fine courses located within the Durham borders, and half a dozen more on the outskirts. They include the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club, located right on the campus of Duke University; 300 acres of pristine golfing conditions, the dream of many a Mississauga dentist or other well to do individuals. Hillendale and Lakeshore are also two favorites among the local elite.

If live entertainment is more appealing to you, you might want to check out a couple of the annual festivals which Durham puts on in the summer. Fans of choreography and music will love the eight week long American Dance Festival which takes place all summer and takes place in several locations throughout the city. The largest venue, where the biggest names in dance perform, is The Durham Arts Performing Center, which was specifically built for the festival.

The Nasher Museum of Art opened its doors in 2005, and has been a hit amongst lovers of high culture in the Durham and surrounding regions ever since. There are more than 13,000 works on display at the museum, from artists both well known and up and coming. Reclusive Canadians have been known to leave their Toronto Beaches condo and make the trip down to show off their own work or appreciate the work of others.

With the revival of the tourism and arts sectors in Durham has come a lot of building and development to appeal to visitors. There are many fine restaurants in the downtown area as well as shopping malls where you can buy baby sleeping bags, clothes, and a host of other goods. The most notable district is the historic American Tobacco District, where many of the revitalization projects have taken place.
